Biography
Our aim is to study the basic mechanisms involved in the structure and the functioning of the normal and pathological locomotor system. We are particularly interested in neuromuscular (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and osteoarticular (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Low Back Pain) diseases. Our strategy is mainly based on physical exercise and mechanical cell stress, to unravel new signaling pathways whose pharmacological modulation could alleviated clinical symptoms. Our project is divided in four work packages (WP), in which the complementary expertise of all the team’s researchers are shared. WP1 will deal with the development and plasticity of the normal and pathological locomotor system, WP2 will deal with the analysis of the interplays between energetic metabolism, oxidative stress and inflammation in locomotor diseases, WP3 will deal with the role of RNA metabolism in neuromuscular pathologies, and WP4 will deal with the nuclear signaling pathways in RNA metabolism, cellular differentiation and diseases. Experimental approaches will integrate analyses at different levels, from motor behavior and exercise physiology in humans and mice to cellular and molecular biology, in mouse models and in human and mouse cell cultures.
